Easily one of Van's top 5 efforts Veedon Fleece is truly remarkable! I didn't know Leonard Cohen's view on this album. Van Morrison is master artist who unfortunetly will only receive his due recognition after his demise. You want to hear this only if you're a completist. It is almost criminal that so few people have heard the magnificence of the song "Streets of Arklow" let alone the rest of Van's catalogue. While Astral Weeks can be rambling and flaccid, Veedon Fleece is tighter and more focused. I'd say it's probably my fourth favorite after Astral Weeks, Moondance and Poetic Champions Compose. Preferably listened to late at night with headphones. Might have convinced me to give it a listen friendo. Veedon Fleece was one of the Van Morrison recordings I missed in the mid-70s, but when it was remastered and reissued on CD, I picked it up as I wanted to fill in the holes in my Van Morrison collection. I would have purchased the rest but I suspected that this remastered edition would be coming. Having divorced from his wife Janet (Planet) Rigsbee (or Brown Eyed Girl ), he decided to visit Ireland for the first time in six years with his then-fiancée, in order to find inspiration for his next album. Van, thank heaven, is a prolific producer of music and has no less than 25 titles out. Also "Streets of Arklow" is my jam, I love that song.
